ELLE GROANED in frustration. “I just don't get it. How can we possibly have time to go through all of these to find the right one?” She stared down into a chest full of large keys.

“Hold on,” Alya said.

The game was a good one, challenging, and she'd found herself stuck more than once. Taking a step back and a breath to clear her head she saw what had been right in front of their faces.

“You need to be logical,” she said. “There's not enough time to go through every key, which means there must be a clue, and the only thing I can see is that.” She pointed to a graphic on the lid of the chest. A circle, a rectangle, then the number three.

“Huh?”

She picked up a key and held it against the graphic. “See, it can't be this key,” she explained. “This key has a triangular top, not a circle, it has a cylindrical shaft, not a rectangular one, and here, at the end, four prongs on the key itself, not three.”

Elle sat back on her heels and stared at her in amazement. “You know, if I didn't already want to kiss you, I would now. Smarty pants.”

Alya grinned back and then they both went to work digging through the chest, their hands occasionally touching as they searched.
